The Best Foods to Eat for Healthier Hair

Looking for ways to make your hair healthier? No, this is not an infomercial, just your friends at Style Bar wanting your hair looking its best outside of the salon. Truth is, products can only enhance your hair so much, and healthy hair starts from the inside. Your diet directly impacts your hair, just another reason to eat those veggies!

Looking to improve your hair’s shine, length or strength? See the food that will get you there:

Shine

Sick of trying hundreds of styling products that aren’t doing the trick? Foods like salmon, sardines, and mackerel are rich with omega-3 fatty acids, which your body doesn’t produce- your only source is through food or supplements, so eat up to give your hair more shine.

Another way to add shine is to eat lots of sweet potatoes, which are filled with beta carotene, an antioxidant that helps the glands in your scalp make an oily fluid called sebum necessary for hydration. This helps protect against dry, dull hair, and adds shine to your locks.

Growth

If you have been trying to grow your hair out but it feels like it is taking ages, it may be because your diet lacks protein and the vitamin B5. Greek yogurt is rich in both these nutrients, and also has pantothenic acid which helps fight hair thinning and loss.

Not a fan of the bitter taste of greek yogurt, don’t worry! If you eat enough eggs, you hair will grow faster. Eggs are rich in protein and Biotin – a B vitamin that helps hair grow and prevents brittleness. That only leaves one question; scrambled or sunny side up?

Breakage

Hair breakage is a huge contributor to unhealthy hair. A solution to this problem is an uncommon, but delicious fruit. If you’ve never had a guava, head to the grocery store and try one. It is rich in Vitamin C; just one cup of guava fruit gives you 377 milligrams.

If you prefer vegetables, spinach and kale are rich in nutrients like Vitamin A, iron, beta carotene, folate, and Vitamin C (we weren’t kidding) that help maintain a healthy scalp and keep your hair moisturized, preventing breakage.

Be sure to incorporate these foods into your diet to keep your hair healthy and strong. Check out our Pinterest board for more hair healthy tips!
