Workout Hairstyles

If you’ve stuck to your New Years Resolution and are hitting the gym during down time, congrats! We’re here to make sure that your time working out is done in style with the correct fitness hair-do.

Have you thought about your workout hairstyles? According to WebMD, “Ponytails and braids can cause hair to break, especially if your style is pulled tightly. If you wear it that way every day, permanent hair damage can occur.” In order to keep your hair looking great and free of damage, try these other techniques that won’t interfere with your fabulous workout.

For Medium to Long Hair:

  1. French Braided – By french braiding the front of your hair, baby hairs and fly aways are sure to be kept under control during your workout. Take the rest of your hair and tie it in a mid or low pony. Though this style looks great on all hair colors, it really shows off roots and highlights that can make blonde hair pop.
  2. Loose Wavy Pony – This style is best if you do not have time to re-style your hair afterwards. Since your hair already has big waves, it will easily hide the indent that your ponytail created during your workout. If you’re constantly on the go, this is the style for you.
  3. Tight Sock Bun – If you have very long hair that might interfere with your workout even if its kept in the pony tail, a tight bun is perfect for no distractions from your hair during gym time. Using a sock bun like this one for $1 from Forever 21 is a fool proof way to look good and feel good at the gym.

For Short Hair:

  1. Sport Hairbands – There are many types of sport hairbands to keep your short hair away from your face. Ranging in thickness, this can give you the option of letting your hair down without it interfering. Find different types of workout headbands here.
  2. Half-Up Half-Down – This style is great for short hair at the gym. You can either leave your part in tact, or swipe all of your hair back above the top just like a high pony.
  3. Let it all Hang out – If your hair is short enough to leave down (and not bother you while working out) then let it all hang out! Chances are if your hair is that short, you’ll be able to quickly wash and blow-dry it after your workout.

For all hairstyles after the gym, be sure to purchase dry shampoo. With a quick spray after your workout, your hair will smell fresh and the product will absorb any excess oil or sweat that is on your scalp.
